JB Lewis-McChord, WA (JBLM) Housing and Relocation Information
The military provides two options for the use of your Basic Allowance For Housing (BAH). The first option is living on base. Your second option is using your BAH to rent or buy a home off post.
- The Housing Services Office (253) 982-5516. Contact the HMO as soon as you know you are moving. You will be provided with the latest information on local housing as well as referral services and relocation assistance. They offer counseling and guidance before entering into a lease agreement and help resolve tenant-landlord disputes.

JBLM on-base housing is privatized and operated by Lincoln Military Housing (253) 912-2112, which offers over 20 different neighborhoords with 2-4 bedroom homes based on family size and pay grade. Rent, maintenance, emergency maintenance, average utilities, trash and recycling should all be covered by your BAH in this community.

Tacoma, Washington is the closest major city to JBLM. Tacoma has about 200,000 people, and is surrounded by several small cities and other small communities within a 15 minute commute, including Lakewood, Spanaway, Parkland, Dupont, and Roy. Further away, within a half hour, are Steilacoom, Puyallup, Graham, Lacey, and Yelm. The cities south of JBLM are Lacey, Olympia, Tumwater, Dupont, and Yelm. The cities north of JBLM are: Lakewood, Gig Harbor, Puyallup, University Place, and Tacoma.
About the Installation
Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) was formed when Fort Lewis and McChord Air Force Base were merged in January 2010 to become one of twelve joint bases in the United States. JBLM is under the jurisdiction of the United States Army Joint Base Garrison, Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Joint Base Lewis-McChord is home to Gray Army Airfield which deploys helicopters for search and rescue missions on Mount Rainier. Lewis-McChord is also home to the 627th Air Base Group and the 62nd Airlift Wing. Other tenant commands include the 446th Airlift Wing, the Western Air Defense Sector (WADS) and Headquarters and Headquarters Company, Joint Base Lewis-McChord. This base is divided into a north and south section which includes live firing ranges and close-in training areas. The Yakima Training Center is a satellite location for Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
